Leonardo da Vinci I (1995 - 1999).

The Leonardo da Vinci programme of the European Union started in 1995.

28 countries participated in the programme's first phase. These included European Union (EU) countries, those from the European Economic Area (EEA) and from the EU pre-accession states and other applicant and/or associated countries.

The programme supported 6 main types of transnational projects, involving approximately 77,000 partner organisations.

These included:

7351 mobility projects with 127,300 persons
2569 pilot projects
125 survey and analysis projects
20 statistical projects
282 multiplier-effect projects

European Community funding for the Leonardo da Vinci programme in its first phase amounted to EURO 793.8 million.
